According to 2022 Flora Award Dinner Chair Cara French,
“The Flora Award, which benefits Texas Discovery Gardens, was established in 1982 to recognize citizens who have demonstrated their commitment to community involvement, education and advancement of the environment.
“The Texas Discovery Gardens is the second oldest botanical institution in Texas and the first in Dallas to offer free unique educational program to youth from all socioeconomic backgrounds. It is truly a gem at Fair Park!
“We are thrilled that Marilyn Herkimer Weber will receive this year’s Flora Award at a black-tie dinner on Thursday, November 10, at the Texas Discover Gardens at Fair Park. This is a wonderful way to support educational programs for children in the Fair Park area and to help sustain the important educational and cultural enrichment that Texas Discovery Gardens continues to provide year end.
“Marilyn’s designation as this year’s honoree is particularly poignant as her parents, Dorothy and Lawrence Herkimer were Flora Award recipients in the mid-1980s. She has continued her parents’ passion for the support of beautification and enrichment of public and private gardens throughout the city of Dallas including the Dallas Arboretum, Fair Park and the SMU campus, among many others.
“Marilyn joins a prestigious list of previous Flora Award recipients. In addition to the Herkimers, include Allie Beth and Pierce Allman, Ruth Sharp Altshuler, Marilyn Augur, Sis and Plack Carr, Rita Clements, Mary Anne Sammons Cree, Barbara Hunt Crow, Louise Griffeth, Nancy Hamon, Margaret Hill, Caroline Rose Hunt, Juanita and Henry S.
