When a first-time fundraiser is a resounding success, the chances are excellent that organizers will step up and hold a second one. Such was the case with the inaugural Impact Dallas Gala, which provided $172,000 for the Dallas Chapter of the American Institute of Architects (AIA Dallas) and the Architecture and Design Foundation (the Foundation). The funds were used to support “community projects, provided scholarships to increase diversity in architecture and provided year-round public programming and education.”
Word just arrived that plans are underway for the 2022 Impact Dallas Gala to be held at The Thompson Hotel on Thursday, October 6, for a black-tie evening of wining, dining and award presentations.

Co-chairing Impact Dallas Gala’s “Black and White” event will be community activist/former public affairs professional Macey Davis, Hon. AIA, and architect/HKS President/CEO Dan Noble, who have their designs on netting $200,000 for “the Foundation to continue to impact the region.”

A highlight of the evening will be the presentation of two awards recognizing a community member and an architect who exemplify their shared mission to foster access to architecture and design. This year’s recipient of the chapter’s highest honor, the AIA Dallas Lifetime Achievement Award, will be Betsy del Monte.
The AD EX Community Cornerstone awardee will be announced the night of the gala. However, the three finalists are Bonton Farms, Parks for Downtown Dallas and Texas Trees Foundation. Talk about a top-tier group of finalists!
According to AIA Dallas and the Foundation Executive Director Zaida Basora, “Our new annual Gala has allowed us to grow our capacity for action and programming at a dramatic pace. With the support of our generous sponsors of this event, the Architecture and Design Foundation is poised become the go-to funding source for community-based projects addressing issues facing our city today.”
In addition to benefiting its Camp Summit community project, last year’s fundraiser resulted in the Design Awareness Endowment Fund being able to “support programs that connect the community to architecture and build awareness of the positive social, economic and environmental impact of architecture and design,” as well fully fund “The Greg Brown Memorial Discover Your City Endowment Fund that supports an annual series of programs honoring the late program director of the AD EX.”
The Foundation offers “over 99 programs, walking and tram tours, events and lectures each year, including 40 free programs in 2021. Last year 775 students learned about career paths in architecture and design and how to become better stewards of their neighborhoods and city in K-12 summer and fall day camps.”
