While he may have been missing from the local scene lately due to wheeling and dealing as president/CEO of Overseas Private Investment Corporation (OPIC), Ray Washburne will be back in town on Wednesday, October 24, at the Dallas Country Club. The occasion is Les Femmes du Monde’s Woman of the Year dinner honoring Center for BrainHealth Founder Dr. Sandi Chapman.

According to WOTY Co-Chairs Mari Epperson and Melissa Lewis, Ray will deliver the keynote talk on OPIC’s 2X Women’s Initiative.

This past March OPIC “unveiled its global 2X Women’s Initiative, which will mobilize more than $1 billion to projects that support women in developing countries, unlocking the multi-trillion dollar investment opportunity women represent.”

Of that $1B, $350M will be invested globally to support “projects that support women-owned businesses, female entrepreneurs and create job opportunities for women in emerging nations.”

As Ray pointed out, “Recognizing both the great needs of women in emerging markets and their collective economic force, the U.S. Government has made investing in women a top priority. OPIC is proud to drive this effort through its 2X Women’s Initiative, which will mobilize $1 billion in investments to women in developing countries throughout the world. OPIC supports investment in global development to advance economic prosperity and global stability; and women are key drivers to achieving both.”

While some may wonder about the topic, it makes perfect sense for Les Femmes that benefits Global Young Leaders Program of the World Affairs Council and the Child Life Program at Children’s Health..

BTW, this Woman of the Year salute isn’t Sandi’s first rodeo. In 2006, she was the keynoter when Billie Leigh Rippey was honored.

Tickets for the fundraiser are available here.
