While DFW International was buzzing with folks returning from summer sojourns on Thursday, August 16, Children at Risk plans were being revealed at The Network Bar. Over at Highland Park Village Theatre, producer/actress Libby Hunt and her husband David Hunt were hosting a private screening of “Undocumented” complete with director Justin Malone, who will be back in town with producer Robert Curlin at SMU’s McCord Auditorium on Monday, October 1.

But over at the Meyerson, 2018 Dallas Symphony Gala Concert And After-Party Co-Chairs Lisa and Bob Segert looked right at home in the East Lobby surrounded by committee members. They explained that, despite Honorary Co-Chairs Niki and Ryan Anthony having to miss the gathering to preview plans, they would be on hand for the first black tie gala of the season on Saturday, September 15. The concert will be sort of a girls-night on the stage with Tony and Emmy awardee, Oklahoma-native Kristin Chenoweth singing and Mary-Mitchell Campbell conducting the DSO. If you’ve heard 4’ 11” Kristin perform, then you know that she was just made for the Meyerson’s McDermott Concert Hall with its world-class acoustic and vice versa. BTW, please don’t wear your stuffed shirts. Kristin’s as much fun as she is beautiful and talented.
As for the look for the DSO fundraising evening, Todd Events Director of Sales Lauren Heiler had a show-and-tell with flora- and fauna-themed displays with a color scheme of celadon, lilac and golden with gold-leaf accents. For the seated dinner preceding the concert, think faux leather banquets as well as padded chairs surrounding tables with velvet tablecloths. For the entry it will be cascades of butterflies. In displaying the Lepidopteras, Bob managed to untangle a string of the fluttery fakes.

Dallas Symphony Association CEO/President Kim Noltemy recalled happily having worked with Kristin in Boston and described her as the “Bernadette Peters of this generation.”

This year’s After-Party Co-Chairs Courtney and Andrew Nall have expanded the partying. Following tradition, it will be held immediately after the concert at the Meyerson. But at midnight After-Party Part II will move over to The Tipsy Alchemist.

After the announcement concluded, Mary and Bob Potter took their place at one of the setups to check their cellphones… Marena and Roger Gault, just back from Aspen with Sherwood Wagner and Todd Clendening, were heading to Blackberry Farms to check out the truffle-sniffing pooches… Speaking of Sherwood and Todd, they were off to Italy… Another pair of summer returnees were Nikki and Crayton Webb fresh from her sister’s place in Kauai. And, no, they and the Webb kids weren’t bothered by the volcano on the Big Island. They also missed out on Hurricane Lane. The Webb boys told their folks that they didn’t want to wash their hair and lose their surfer hair-dos.
There are various levels of attendance ranging from Concert and After-Concert Party only to the full evening including the cocktail reception, dinner, concert, After-Party VIP Experience, etc. The people-watching and fashion-ogling are free.
